Predicting NXT TakeOver: London

The critically-acclaimed NXT just won’t stop expanding. Growing beyond its original home at the Orlando-based Full Sail University, the WWE’s ultra popular developmental brand will now air from the United Kingdom with another tantalising night of unpredictable bouts. Will the NXT champion Finn Balor successfully retain his belt against former friend Samoa Joe? Will Bayley overcome the considerable challenge of Nia Jax? What else can we expect from NXT TakeOver: London?

Asuka vs. Emma

Asuka (pronounced Aska just in case you were wondering) hasn’t disappointed since making her anticipated debut a couple of months ago. The Japanese artist formerly known as Kana wasted no time getting stuck into the talent-rich women’s scene and now faces a rejuvenated longtime divisional staple, Emma. The Australian-born ‘Diva’ may have survived a torrid main roster run, but she remains in NXT as a jobber to the next wave of title challengers. Don’t expect that trend to change anytime soon. Asuka will handedly defeat her rival as she progresses to the top of the pile.

Prediction: Asuka

NXT Tag Team Championship
Dash and Dawson © vs. Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady

Bringing the southern smash-style back into the modern product, the tandem of Dash and Dawson have been a welcome addition to NXT’s tag team division. Champions after dethroning The Vaudevillians last month, the duo have since reignited their fierce war with the super popular team of Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady. Amore and Cassady are entertaining as hell inside and outside the ring, but their time in the division is surely coming to an end with the next batch of main roster callups imminent. The super-over team from New York will give Dash and Dawson a serious run for their money, but I suspect that the newly minted champions will find a way to keep hold of the gold for the time being.

Prediction: Dash and Dawson

Apollo Crews vs. Baron Corbin

A battle between two potential future champions with incredibly bright futures in the industry, Apollo Crews will look to stay perfect in NXT as he faces the tough and dangerous Baron Corbin. With Tyler Breeze now firmly established on the main roster it appears that Corbin has now stepped into his former role of playing the main event’s primary gatekeeper; a role designed to put over the future generation of talent in NXT. If this is indeed the case then nothing but another Crews victory should be expected, but nothing is really guaranteed in the unpredictable NXT.

Prediction: Apollo Crews

NXT Women’s Championship
Bayley © vs. Nia Jax

Bayley has been an exceptional champion thus far and has been involved in some of the best matches the sub-promotion has ever delivered, but she’ll have to be at her best to retain the title against the monstrous Nia Jax. An intriguing match considering that the challenger has only been performing on NXT for about a month, but one that has the potential to be another highlight for the always excellent women’s division. Jax has a long way to go in her development so I question the need to hastily insert her into the title picture. The Anoa’i family member will probably end up with the gold at some point, but for now I think Bayley will remain champion, probably thanks to inadvertent interference from Jax’s ally, Eva Marie.

Prediction: Bayley

NXT Championship
Finn Bálor © vs. Samoa Joe

Christmas will come early for hardcore wrestling fans as Finn Bálor and Samoa Joe finally collide in a match few could have expected a year ago. Whether he’s ‘The Demon’ or the leader of the Bullet Club, Bálor is an absolute world-class star, the kind of superstar the WWE desperately need as they look to cram as much talent into their upcoming Dallas-based WrestleMania. This could mean that the popular Irishman’s run in NXT is coming to an end, so the logical choice would be to crown a new champion very soon. Unlikely to be elevated to the main roster anytime soon for an insane fear that fans might recognise him, Joe should be the odds-on favourite to take the title and move into a new programme with the returning Sami Zayn.

Prediction: Samoa Joe
