WWE: Matches That Need To Happen At WrestleMania 32

This year’s WrestleMania, potentially the biggest instalment in the event’s history, is less than 50 days away. With the ‘Road to WrestleMania’ well underway the stories and their players are slowly moving into place as the WWE aims to deliver a card that could sell out the enormous AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. Injuries might have blighted the promotion since late last year, but that shouldn’t prevent the show from being another excellent spectacle.

Taking into consideration the superstars available along with a number of developing angles and character changes, this post looks at five matches that need to happen at WrestleMania 32.

Intercontinental Championship

With only one world championship the time is now for the WWE to revitalise the once-great Intercontinental title. WrestleMania has seen some brilliant battles for this title over the years and its current champion, Dean Ambrose, appears to be the ideal superstar to help elevate the strap back to prominence. His ideal opponent this year would be the man who has held the gold more times than any other superstar in history. Chris Jericho has held the title a record 9 times and has a proven track record of delivering show-stealing matches at WrestleMania. A hot opening match is essential to the success of each WrestleMania, and that’s just what we’d get if Ambrose and Jericho opened the show this year.

TLC match for the Tag Team Championship

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen the Tables, Ladders and Chairs stipulation at a WrestleMania, but with the tag team division hotter than it’s been in years thanks to the emergence of a new breed of risk-taking superstars, the time seems right to bring it back to the big show. The four participating teams have a knack for putting their bodies on the line to generate unforgettable moments and it would be a safe bet that they would produce even more memorable spots again here, but this would really be an opportunity for the current title holders to shine. The New Day have been responsible for some of the best moments of the last twelve months and deserve a WrestleMania moment more than anyone else on the roster right now. Here’s to hoping we get treated to the sight of the trio celebrating with Francesca II on top of the ladders post match.

Kevin Owens vs. AJ Styles

Raise your hand if you saw this match coming a couple of years ago. No-one? Me neither. Now seemingly with a new recruitment mantra the WWE has worked diligently to replenish its roster with the best talent the industry has to offer. Among two of their best acquisitions under this initiative are AJ Styles and Kevin Owens, superstars who fans have been dreaming of seeing compete at a WrestleMania for years. The match needs little in the way of a build; the two already have a history from the independent circuit, history that was teased when they came to blows in the Royal Rumble match. This is a dream match that needs to happen on the biggest stage possible. The WWE would be foolish to pass it up.

Fatal Four Way match for the Divas Championship

They might have dropped the ball with the ‘Divas Revolution’ in their initial attempt, but the WWE can atone for their mistakes by booking this match as one of WrestleMania’s top attractions. Along with current NXT champion Bayley these four women have been instrumental to the reemergence of proper women’s wrestling, and they more than deserve a chance to properly shine at the biggest show of the year. Last year’s superb match at NXT TakeOver: Rival set the blueprint for what a women’s Fatal Four Way match could look like. If the WWE follows this we’ll be in for a the first truly memorable women’s match in the event’s long and illustrious history.

The Undertaker vs. John Cena

I know it’s a long shot considering John Cena’s status following shoulder surgery, but there really aren’t any other matches I want to see The Undertaker in...and it appears that the WWE are in total agreement. The final ‘money’ match remaining for the legendary ‘Deadman’, the two superstars have been wisely kept apart since their brief rivalry back in 2003 and regardless of if this match happens this year or not, it’s highly likely that it will be The Undertaker’s final match. With this year’s show emanating from his home state, combined with its potential to be the biggest WrestleMania ever, it would be a real shame if the greatest performer in WWE couldn’t bow out with a match against the promotion’s top superstar.
