Predicting WWE Money in the Bank

The return of the ever-popular Money in the Bank ladder match, the continuation of a rivalry between two uber popular superstars, and a highly anticipated rematch. The Money in the Bank pay-per-view has long been a fan favourite event, but this year’s offering has the potential to be a significant highlight in what has so far been another frustrating year for the WWE. Predictably unpredictable, what will go down at this year’s event?

Intercontinental Championship
Ryback © vs. Big Show

Following his surprise, yet well deserved capture of the title at Elimination Chamber, Ryback’s first title defence comes against the returning Big Show; a superstar who might be the last person on the roster deserving of another title shot. Big Show should be here simply to provide ‘The Big Guy’ with a high-profile victory, one in which he can showcase his immense strength. The champion should retain, but the WWE have long admired their veteran giant...so a Big Show win wouldn't surprise too much.

Winner: Ryback

Bold Prediction:
Ryback wins after hitting Big Show with a huge Shellshocked.

Divas Championship
Nikki Bella © vs. Paige

Now well on her way to breaking AJ Lee’s title record of 294 days, it seems that Nikki Bella has held onto the belt for a lot longer than she actually has. The Divas title picture is beyond stagnant at this point with Paige challenging yet again. Of all the Divas on the main roster, Nikki is the most improved by far, and also boasts the look and physique that top officials seem to love. Paige is definitely a future top star, but she’ll have to wait a little longer to secure another reign as champion.

Winner: Nikki Bella

Bold Prediction:
Paige will survive a Rack Attack.

Tag Team Championship
The New Day (Xavier Woods & Big E) © vs. The Prime Time Players

While the tag team elimination chamber match proved disappointing two weeks ago, it did demonstrate that the company is taking the necessary steps to repair the much-neglected division. The New Day are doing a fantastic job in their new villainous role, and seem set to continue as champions for a long time while other tandems gel and rise to prominence. Indeed The Prime Time Players are former champions, but having only recently reunited the chances of them leaving with the gold are slim to none. Besides, losing the titles would rob the champions of their well-earned momentum.

Winner: The New Day

Bold Prediction:
Taking advantage of Big E’s muscle, Xavier Woods will score the pinfall despite not actually landing the decisive move.

Money in the Bank Ladder match
Neville vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Randy Orton vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Sheamus vs. Kane vs. Roman Reigns

This is surely a no-brainer. The contract, and title shot were guaranteed for Reigns the moment he failed to capture the championship at WrestleMania. This time round however the WWE have done a much better job of getting Reigns over as a legitimate threat. Gone are those painfully scripted promos and endless squash matches, Reigns has instead been gaining momentum with a discreet, yet significant presence in the Ambrose/Rollins feud. This match should deliver the usual thrills associated with the match type, especially with the inclusion of known spot monkeys Kingston and Neville, but unfortunately with the outcome all but certain, this is one of the more predictable Money in the Bank matches, a far cry from its chaotic and unpredictable beginnings.

Winner: Roman Reigns

Bold Prediction:
Reigns spears everyone at least once.

John Cena vs. Kevin Owens

Two weeks ago Kevin Owens did the unthinkable. Few predicted that the NXT champion would defeat Cena, but even fewer correctly guessed that the former ROH standout would pin the 15-time world champion...clean. Their rematch is actually even more interesting considering backstage plans for Owens. With knowledge that he’ll almost certainly be dropping his title to Finn Bálor at next next month’s Tokyo special, that loss, coupled with a defeat here could cause significant damage to Owens’ standing as one of the organisation’s top heels. Cena is well known for his ‘loss-win-win’ feud pattern, but that cliché really needs to be snapped here.

Winner: Kevin Owens

Bold Prediction:
Cena kicks out of two Pop-Up Powerbombs this time.

Ladder match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Seth Rollins © vs. Dean Ambrose

At last year’s instalment Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose stole the show with their incredible contributions in the Money in the Bank ladder match. This time they don’t need to steal the spotlight, because it’ll be solely trained on them. This is indeed a protracted feud, but it feels like something ripped from the Attitude Era, something that has surely helped endear it to older audiences. With Brock Lesnar’s considerable shadow still looming large over the title scene, don’t expect a title change here. Ambrose is a fun main event attraction, but he is not world champion level...yet. Expect another wild brawl with some memorable spots, but also bank on another overbooked, Authority-centric main event.

Winner: Seth Rollins

Bold Prediction:
Authority members will subdue Ambrose and Rollins retrieves the title.
